How the Bonds Work

The FGN savings bond is a government-backed investment instrument open to all Nigerians, including individuals. For this July offer, there are two options:

2-year bond maturing July 16, 2027 – paying 14.401% interest
3-year bond maturing July 16, 2028 – paying 15.401% interest

Each bond unit costs ₦1,000, with a minimum investment of ₦5,000 and a maximum of ₦50 million. Interest is paid quarterly and Principal is paid at maturity.

While the rates are attractive, they’ve dropped slightly compared to July:

July 3-year bond paid 16.762%
Now, it’s 15.401%

This dip is likely linked to the Central Bank’s decision to hold rates steady at 27.5%, part of efforts to manage inflation and stabilize the Naira.
