The fundamental analysis looks at the company itself, its financials, management, products, market position and future prospects. This is the approach I recommend for most investors, especially beginners. Here are a few things to look out for when analyzing a stock. Look at:

Financial health (are they making money?, is their revenue growing?, what is their profit margin like?).
P/E Ratio – The Price to Earnings ratio tells you how much you're paying for each naira of the company's earnings (i.e, it tells you how expensive a stock is relative to its earnings).
Beta – The company's Beta shows you how volatile this company's stock is compared to the general market. A Beta of one means it moves exactly with the market; below one means less volatile and above one means more volatile.
Another thing to look out for is the company's industry and competitive position. Ask yourself questions like, Is it a leader in its industry?, What are the advantages it has over its competitors? etc.

2. Technical Analysis

Focuses on stock price movements and charts (more advanced).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Emotional Investing: Don’t invest based on hype or sentiment. Analyze first.
Following Hot Tips: Just because a friend recommends it doesn’t mean it’s good for you.
Impatience: Wealth in the stock market comes from long-term investing.
Investing Emergency Funds: Only invest money you won’t need in the next 3–5 years. Don't invest the money you need to use soon.
